[...] Over the years, our relationship deepened. We went through numerous challenges, including the tough times during Covid-19. Eventually, we decided to get married, and our wedding day was so magical that I cried all day long. But shortly after, things started to go wrong.

Nevertheless, as I wrote these words in my small travel book, the political situation in France was becoming increasingly difficult for me. I was growing more uncomfortable with the rise of fascism, the inflexibility towards vegans and vegetarians, and the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. I couldn’t even discuss politics with friends or at work. Sometimes, it felt like every day I encountered posters of Marine Le Pen with slogans like:

"La France aux Français!" (France to the French people!).

It was oppressive, and I couldn’t live like that anymore. I felt like a political refugee in my own country, and this cold loneliness froze and shattered my heart, piece by piece.

August 5th, 2021, just a few days after our wedding, marked the day my dear friend Axel passed away from cancer at the age of 45. (Still thinking of you, punk <3). Around the same time, I also lost my job because I chose not to get vaccinated. We were struggling financially, and we had to move in with Laeti’s mother since we couldn’t afford our apartment or pay the bills anymore.

During this challenging time, I felt like I needed to go through a personal therapy. It was about more than just emotional healing—it was about dealing with the things that had been holding me back in life and many situations that made me very sad. Slowly, I began to heal. I eventually got vaccinated, regained my job, and started to feel like I was getting back on track.

After our wedding, Laetitia and I both realized it was time for a fresh start. We discussed new possibilities, new projects, and a new life. After seven months of preparation, we made the decision to move to Germany. Why there? Well, we thought at the time it could be the last place where fascism would rise (edit: that's not true anymore).

We packed up everything in our small French black car, and after more than 20 hours of driving, with breaks along the way, we finally reached our destination in northern Germany. It was the beginning of June, and it was cold and grey— Obviously, the weather here is so different compared to the French Riviera... Anyway, we’ve now been living here for over three years, building a new life together. Of course, it hasn’t been easy for us both, but we’ve made it work.
